Yesterday was #WorldMentalHealthDay and today is #NationalComingOutDay so I figured I'd do a two in one since these two topics are very closely related for me. 😅 Looking at my life right now, I never would have thought I'd be here. Being able to be out and proud, open with my family and my friends, and living authentically myself is just a bit surreal. I know to some people that doesn't seem like a big deal and it's not something that's very difficult to do. But for a lot of us, it's terrifying and we may not have that privilege. I've shared my coming out story multiple times...so I don't want to get into that too much. But I do want to talk about mental health. Mental illness does not discriminate. No matter who you are, where you come from, how famous or wealthy you are, it doesn't matter. We all struggle with it in one way or another. The mind is a powerful thing and it can bring lots of highs but it can also take you to a very low place as well. Those lows can make you feel solitary but remember that you are not alone. We have so much more in common than you may realize. In this process, just know that we are human. We are imperfectly perfect. We are allowed to fail, to make mistakes. We have feelings (that don't always make sense). We are not our problems. We are not our circumstances. We are not our struggles. Those things do not define us. And through all of that mess, we are all equal. So I encourage you to be kind to one another. Let's support, encourage, and love each other. ♥️ To those who may be struggling...take your time. Be kind to yourself. Please reach out for help! And don't stop until you get the help you need. You have a purpose here. And sometimes we may not know this purpose...but just by being authentic, kind, and loving, you can find your calling and make an impact. So if you're doubting yourself...remember that you matter! This world needs you to show up as the best version of you! MOST IMPORTANTLY, BE A DAMN UNICORN (even though you may be a horse).🦄😂 Thank you to everyone who has supported, accepted, and loved me for me. So grateful for every single one of you! ♥️🏳️‍🌈
